The 2024 Motor Show opens this Monday in : what should we expect from this 90th edition?

From October 14 to 20, will once again be the automobile capital of the world. A meeting which allows manufacturers, every two years, to present their new products.

It’s an event that car fans await with great impatience every two years. The 90th edition of the Paris Motor Show, which opens this Monday in Paris for seven days, will not deviate from tradition. The figures speak for themselves: 50 manufacturers present, more than 400 models presented, 85,000 m² of exhibition space spread over 6 halls, 500,000 visitors expected at Porte de … This show will be “a party”assures event director Serge Gachot.

Sluggish period

And yet, the context would rather encourage gloom, as the sector is going through a very difficult period. Manufacturers must juggle between new regulations which require them to significantly reduce their CO2 emissions, the public’s weak appetite for electric vehicles still considered too expensive or even Chinese competition well on its way to taking the lion’s share with precisely these prices. more attractive. Many manufacturers and equipment suppliers have suffered the crisis since Covid and many have been forced, in recent years, to reduce their payroll.

Lots of new stuff

However, this Parisian show – which alternates each year with that of Geneva – sounds like the return of the sector’s ambition, at least in terms of form. The 2024 edition, the 90th of its kind, is therefore intended to be bigger, flashier, more ambitious…

This is how many manufacturers have planned to unveil, in Paris, the new models on which they are banking. Starting with the French, at home. Peugeot will thus present its new 3008 and 5008 models, but also and above all its highly anticipated Peugeot e-408, a sedan with the false air of a coupe and SUV which relies on 100% electric to stand out.

The shift towards electric…

This show will also clearly mark the shift towards electric. Renault Group, which will be present with all of its brands spread over five stands, hopes to create an event with its Renault 4-Etech, revealed for the first time to the general public. Inspired by the legendary 4L, this vehicle, estimated at between €30,000 and €40,000, is aimed at fans wanting to combine retro and modern technology. The new electric Renault 5, which is inspired by its illustrious ancestor, will also be there, as will the Alpine 290, a city car with a range of 380 km or the Dacia Bigster, an SUV with a robust look but promised by the mark as “accessible” financially speaking, that is to say €25,000. Will he keep his promises?

SUVs that resist

Electric SUVs will be widely observed overall. Among the most anticipated are the BMW Neue Klass or the Mini Aceman produced in China and soon in Europe. But also the Skoda Elroq, the KIA EV3, or the Alfa Romeo Junior.

Tesla, which has not come to Paris since 2018, will obviously be one of the beachheads of this Show. The Americans will unveil the Cybertuck, an oh-so-futuristic pickup truck. Another expected prestige brand, Cadillac, which will also present an electric SUV, the Lyriq, whose dimensions will make its name forget: 5 meters long and 2.7 tonnes. Chinese brands will also be present to try to nibble a little more market share… or the spectacle, like the U8 SUV, a 3.5 ton monster.

In fact, apart from Toyata – who focused on the Olympic Games this year – and Mercedes, almost all the manufacturers will be present. And to celebrate the 90th anniversary, the Show will also present a retrospective of numerous models that have passed through Paris, thus retracing the history of the car. To perhaps also remember that, for a long time, the automobile was really celebrating.
