A bronze medal worth gold

Friday October 11 in Onet-le-Château, Pierre Connac, native of Fondamente, received the bronze medal for Youth, Sports and Community Commitment. She was pinned by Bernard Soulié who was for 15 years president of the 100 km organization. A well-known runner, he was known here for his participation and his role as organizer of a team relay competition called “La en cours”. Under his leadership, the town has twice been a stopover town and witnessed great events for the occasion. He participated five times and then was the organizer in charge of implementing the route between each stage city from 2002 to 2023.

But few know that he was a volunteer at the Reflets d’argent retirement home in Palavas-les-Flots (Hérault), responsible each week for the press review and taking residents out for walks. In the past, proud of his roots, he created and led two Amicales d’Aveyronnais in Aix-en-Provence (13) and (34). But the simple and reserved man confided: “I felt a lot of emotion during this ceremony, very happy to receive this distinction in my department of heart.” Before adding, true to his image: “I don’t get any glory from it.”
