5 a.m. news – Dominique Bernard, Samuel Paty: a day marked by tribute

A day of tribute is organized this Monday, October 14, in schoolsa year after the death of Dominique Bernard, four years after that of Samuel Paty, two teachers killed by young radicalized Islamists.

Michel Barnier, Prime Minister, and Anne Genetet, Minister of National Education, will be in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (), in the college where Samuel Paty taught. A minute of silence will be observed in all middle and high schools. from .

This tribute is close to the heart of Zoé, a former student of Dominique Bernard, in , who remains very traumatized by this attack. “After everything I’ve been through this year, since the attack, paying homage was obligatory for me“, she explains, straight away. She continues by quoting several young people who, on social networks, have announced that they do not want to participate. “I would like to tell them that we must respect the teachers who have died for us, to defend ourselves. I would just like to tell them that it could have happened to them and that we should not take it lightly,” assures the high school student. “We really need to respect this minute of silence.”
