WTA Wuhan: Aryna Sabalenka wins a 17th title and puts pressure on world No.1 Iga Swiatek

In this remake of the final of the last Australian Open, Sabalenka only needed a break (4-2) to win the first set. In the second set, Sabalenka made the break (2-1), immediately canceled by Zheng. The latter then took her opponent’s service in turn (3-5), but here too, the break took place immediately. It was finally in the 12th game that Zheng achieved the decisive break to return to one set all.

Shanghai Masters: world number one Jannik Sinner beats Novak Djokovic to claim a 7th title in 2024

In the third set, both players had difficulty with their serve. Sabalenka took Zheng’s four times, losing hers twice herself. She won the match on her third match point.

Sabalenka, 26, won the 17th title of her career, the fourth of the season after the Australian Open, the WTA 1,000 in Cincinnati and the US Open.

With this success, Sabalenka returns to less than 100 points behind the Polish Iga Swiatek in the WTA rankings, while the best players in the world will meet in Saudi Arabia from November 2 to 9 as part of the Masters.

Under pressure from Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic loses to Jannik Sinner at the Masters 1000 in Shanghai: “Too strong, too fast…”

Zheng, 22, remains stuck at four titles, including the gold medal at the Olympic Games.
