After the tribute ceremonies organized in Arras today, October 14, 2024 is a day of commemoration of the terrorist attacks which caused the death of Samuel Paty in 2020 and Dominique Bernard in 2023. These are two of ours who died for having done their job. An PE teacher and two agents from the Region were also injured in the 2023 attack. The FSU is fully committed to the day of commemoration. She salutes the memory of the two murdered colleagues and once again provides her support to all those: staff, students, parents, physically or morally traumatized by these events.
These two Islamist terrorist attacks deeply affected the educational community because they were openly directed against the public, secular school and its staff. The FSU considers it necessary to organize time for contemplation and educational time and reflection on substance, left to the teams and adapted to the age of the students. The FSU does not forget that, immediately after the events, the ministers of the time refused the teams time for reflection and professional tribute. She also does not forget that the profusion of declarations of love to school staff did not extend beyond the few days immediately following each attack.
The FSU recalls that all educational teams are indeed confronted with countless problems such as inequalities and tensions rising in society. The republican ideal of public and secular schools – helping all students grow and succeed together, whoever they are and wherever they are – cannot rely solely on ever fewer, ever less recognized, ever less recognized staff. considered. Securing school premises to combat any risk of recidivism requires not only a few “security” measures, but also an increased presence of adults.
This period of mourning and tributes concerns the whole of society. The school aims for emancipation through knowledge, liberation from shackles through critical thinking. Its social role must be reaffirmed and reinforced. It allows us to oppose obscurantism with confidence in youth and humanity.
