Four occupants of a Tesla electric car died after it caught fire on the evening of Saturday October 12, 2024, around 10:45 p.m. The accident took place on a departmental road near Melle, around twenty kilometers east of Niort (Deux-Sèvres).

The reason for the accident still “undetermined”

According to a source close to the gendarmerie, the accident occurred for a “undetermined reason”, reports Agence France-Presse. The four people in the vehicle were “already dead when help arrived”. The driver was from Niort. The three passengers were employees of a restaurant in Melle.

An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of this tragedy. According to the first elements of this, the car would have hit several road signs at high speed.
