20h05 : 5 offices out of 11 stripped. Olivier Bordon is, according to information, in the lead in voting preference compared to Jean-Charles Luperto. The Ensemble list is in the lead ahead of the PS. “Even I am surprised by the first results”, comments Olivier Bordon
20h : Earlier today, a problem reportedly occurred. A voter would have slipped her two ballots into the same ballot box. The office members had to unseal it to recover the erroneous ballot.
Sunday 8 p.m.: the first results are in, two polling stations out of the eleven are counted. At this stage, the PS no longer has an absolute majority and would no longer even be the leading party in Sambreville. The socialist list of the mayor, Jean-Charles Luperto, on these two offices, received 37.79% of the votes, or 16.74% less than in 2018. The list of his former alderman, Olivier Bordon, who had slammed the door of the college during his mandate and composed a list “Together” against Luperto, would come first, with 40.61% of the votes.
The issues at Sambreville
In 2018, Jean-Charles Luperto’s PS achieved a historic score of 20 seats out of 29, reinforcing its equally historic absolute majority since it had been uncontested since the merger of the Commons in 1976. Even if it were to suffer a regression, the party socialist should not be destabilized to the point of being overthrown. However, he faced an unprecedented opposition since the former first alderman, Olivier Bordon, who had left politics during his mandate, finally returned to campaign against Luperto and his troops. In 2018, Bordon had the second best score, 3,875 preferred votes, behind Luperto and his 4,924 votes. But relations between the two men had become “complicated”, with Bordon finally slamming the door. Returning to Sambreville in 2023, he launched the Ensemble list with Écolo, DéFi, Les Engagés, le MR. But the team was shaken: Ecolo left the ship, not considering himself phased. The Greens will therefore have their own list. However, an Ensemble candidate from the MR, Flavio Cioffi, was criticized for being close to the Italian extreme right. He defended himself, supported by Olivier Bordon and the president of the MR, David Clarinval.
The other new thing is the presence of a PTB list in Sambreville. To what extent will it bring back disappointed PS voters? Difficult to say, because it only has three candidates. New list title also: UDLI (the Democratic Union of Independent Liberals), led by municipal councilor Philippe Kerbusch (formerly MR and DéFI).
