“Everyone knows that Nico Paz will return to Madrid in one or two years”

Having left Real Madrid this summer to join Como 1907, Nico Paz is splashing Serie A with his talent and could convince the Merengues to use their buyout clause.

Real Madrid have struggled to rely on La Fábrica in recent years. The club’s sporting management has gone through several approaches, taking experienced players at the end of the 2010s and now being in a post-training logic, securing the services of the most promising young players from around the world. The big losers are the little Madrilenians who made their mark in the club’s youth teams. They, like Nico Paz, have difficulty passing the last stages which would lead them to join the professional squad and end up going to other clubs.

Nico Paz, two months to convince Italy

This summer, it was Nico Paz who took the plunge. At the very end of the transfer window, the Argentinian packed his bags for Italy by joining Como 1907, just promoted to Serie A. This project is very ambitious and is financed by a group of Indonesian investors. Thierry Henry and Cesc Fábregas are among the minority investors and the Spaniard even became the club’s coach following his recent retirement from sports in 2023. It was he who was behind the arrival of Nico Paz in Como.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder was an unknown in Italy but it only took him a few weeks to prove his talent and become the darling of his supporters in Lombardy. Everyone is won over by his talent and his coach even adapted his system to highlight him, going from a 4-4-2 to a 4-2-3-1 so that Nico Paz could occupy the role of number 10 in which he wreaks havoc. He is the real master of his team, which has had a decent start to the season for a promoted team despite a very tough schedule with a 14th place in Serie A.

Real Madrid still on the lookout

Although he left Madrid this summer, the Merengue club has not lost control of his career. His sale for six million euros allowed his current club to secure his services, but they only acquired 50% of the player while signing a buyout clause for the next three years. Given his level and this contractual situation, seeing him return to the Spanish capital is far from utopian.

The Italian press is also aware of this. “Everyone knows that Nico Paz will return to Madrid in one or two years. At 20 years old, he shows that he is a player of another level”said Marco Demicheli, journalist for Sky Sport Italia in comments reported by RELIEF. For his part, Giulio Saetta, journalist for the Gazzetta dello Sportis surprised: “I don’t know why they didn’t trust his talent there! I’m sure they’re watching what he’s doing out of the corner of their eyes.”

The Argentinian’s talent could push Real Madrid to repatriate him at the end of the year if he continues this way. Interest could increase during the season and his profile could be excellent consolation if the file Florian Wirtz escapes the club.

Seeing a young player trained in Madrid explode in another club before returning is not so rare among the Merengues. In the current squad, this was the case of Dani Carvajal (Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2012-13), Lucas Vázquez (Espanyol Barcelona in 2014-15) and Fran García (Rayo Vallecano between 2021 and 2023). The club is used to selling its young people while retaining options on their future in order to repatriate them if they quickly prove themselves. This may be the case for Nico Paz in the summer of 2025.
