Donald Trump associated with luxury golf project in Vietnam

Donald Trump, Republican candidate for a second term at the White House, attended the signing of an agreement on September 25 in Florida relating to the construction of a luxury golf course in Vietnam. The amount of the partnership between Trump Organization and Hung Yen Hospitality, a subsidiary of real estate developer Kinh Bac City, amounts to 1.5 billion dollars (1.36 billion euros).

A source employed by Kinh Bac City, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the figure. The text provides for the development of “five-star hotels, competition golf courses, luxury residences” near the capital Hanoi (north), according to a joint press release from the two companies, which does not specify a timetable.

Possible conflicts of interest

Former President Donald Trump turned over management of his real estate empire to his sons after taking office in 2017, although he retained his stake in the Trump Organization. His overseas business dealings have prompted critics to sound the alarm over possible conflicts of interest.

A 2022 US Congressional report, for example, found that the governments of six countries spent more than $750,000 at a Washington hotel owned by Trump while trying to influence his administration in 2017 and 2018.

Vietnam welcomed more than twelve million visitors over the first nine months of 2024, an increase of 43% compared to last year over the same period.
