a golden opportunity presents itself to Walid Sadi

Algeria Football– According to the African press, the deadline for submitting candidacy files for the elections of the executive office of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been set for November 12, 2024. The elections, for their part, will be held in March 2025 in Cairo. For Algeria, this deadline represents a major challenge, and the president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), Walid Sadi, could well play a crucial role.

After recently becoming vice-president of the North African Football Union (UNAF), Walid Sadi is expected to run for a mandate within the CAF executive committee. This choice can be explained by three main reasons. First of all, Algeria needs to improve its image after the failures of previous candidates, such as Amar Bahloul and Djahid Zefizef, who were beaten in past elections. Then, it would be a question of reconquering a strategic position left vacant since the defeat of Mohamed Raouraoua in 2017. Finally, Algeria seeks to find an influential voice within the CAF after years of hegemony of its Moroccan neighbor.

Walid Sadi therefore has little other option than to run in these elections. An absence of Algeria in these instances would further reinforce the marginalization of its football on the continental scene. Moreover, during his campaign for the presidency of the FAF, Sadi had already insisted on the need to rejoin the CAF executive committee, an objective that has now become a priority.
