BAM: The dirham appreciates against the dollar between August and September

The dirham appreciated by 0.45% against the dollar and depreciated by 0.45% against the euro between August and September, indicates Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) in his monthly note of economic, monetary and financial situation.

Concerning BAM’s foreign currency auction operations, no session has been held since December 2021, specifies the Central Bank.

On the interbank market, the volume of currency exchanges against dirhams stood at 44.3 billion DH in August 2024, down 29.5% compared to August 2023. As for the operations of banks with customers, their volume stood during the month of August at 34.9 billion DH for spot purchases compared to 31.6 billion DH a year previously.

For their part, forward purchases amounted to 19.3 billion DH after 15.9 billion DH the previous year.

Regarding sales, they covered an amount of 36.1 billion DH for spot transactions and 1.7 billion DH for term transactions, after 31.3 billion DH and 2.3 billion DH respectively.
