Live blog elections – De Wever at N-VA final meeting: “May reason and a sense of responsibility prevail again”

The final meeting of the N-VA campaign is underway in Antwerp, where chairman Bart De Wever also spoke. He states that the stakes are high throughout Flanders. For example, he refers to Sint-Niklaas, where N-VA mayor Lieven Dehandschieter is competing against Vooruit chairman Conner Rousseau. “Lieven reportedly has a tough competitor, I know his name but I couldn’t come up with it, because I know Lieven will make it.”

In Bruges, De Wever hopes that Maaike De Vreese will make it. And in Genk he is rooting for Zuhal Demir, he says. “Now there is a tough miner’s daughter standing in front of the gate. And she will come in, if necessary with the gate and all.”

According to De Wever, the N-VA once again became the largest party in Flanders four months ago because the party “does not fool people into believing that governments can spend endless money”, “does not trick communities with lies and false promises” and at the same time ” do not turn people against each other with hateful speech.”

“May reason and responsibility prevail again tomorrow,” he concludes.
