Despite an intervention by firefighters which lasted almost 24 hours, the Penchien castle, in Mansigné, in the south of could not be saved after the fire which broke out there, Thursday October 10, 2024.

“A page is turning… We are well aware that we will not see him again”laments François Boussard, the mayor of Mansigné, in the south of Sarthe, after the fire which ravaged the Penchien castle.

Called shortly before 10 a.m. on Thursday, the firefighters remained on site for 24 hours to control the fire, which flared up several times, and secure the premises as much as possible by accelerating the fall of certain walls and floors.

On site, the damage was considerable and led the city councilor to say that the building would not survive the fire damage. He issued a security order (formerly endangerment) and prohibited access to the place this Friday, October 11, 2024. “We can at least be happy that there were no victims”he emphasizes. The two occupants, a woman and her elderly mother, were rehoused.
