Football-Qualification CAN 2025/GL-J3-Senegal-Malawi: with a new staff, the Lions to continue and regain first place in Burkina victorious over Burundi

XALIMANEWS-CE Friday in the magnificent Abdoulaye Wade stadium of Diamniadio at 7 p.m. GMT, the Lions of Senegal will receive the Malawi as part of the 3rd day of the qualification matches for the CAN 2025. After its success on the Burundi, the lions will want to continue against the Flames before the return match on Wednesday to regain first place in Burkina Faso who largely dominated Burundi (4-1) this Thursday.

This Friday, Sadio Mané, Kalidou Koulibaly and partners will play a rather special match. And for good reason? This will be the Lions’ first outing without their emblematic coach Aliou Cissé for 8 years. The latter, whose contract was not renewed by the state authorities, was replaced by Pape Thiaw who will take over in the interim. For this shock without the coach with the famous dreadlocks, the 2022 African champions will be keen to win the match for three reasons: to regain first place from Burkina victorious over Burundi (4-1) but also to pay tribute to their former coaches while by pleasing the Senegalese people, as Captain Kalidou Koulibaly declared at a press conference.

After two outings, a bitter draw in front of the Stallions (1-1) at home, a borrowed victory away against the Burundians (0-1), the Lions (2nd, 4 pts, +1) will have to secure this near noon against to the Flames while trying to improve their goal average, to regain first place in Burkina Faso (1st, 7 pts, +5).

With a full squad with the exception of Abdallah Sima from injured and returned to his club, the selected group must be able to do the job, before the return match scheduled for Tuesday October 15 in Lilongwe.
