Suspended since August 30, 2023 following the military coup in our country, the partnership dialogue between Gabon and the European Union (EU) resumed yesterday in Libreville, after a year of suspension.
Co-chaired by the Prime Minister, Raymond Ndong Sima, and the EU Ambassador to Gabon, Cécile Abadie, the meeting between our country and this partner saw the participation of several members of the Transition government and diplomats from the countries of EU accredited in Libreville. As well as that of the head of the Africa division of the European External Action Service in Brussels, EU headquarters, Katrin Hagemann.
This important meeting was held within the framework of the Samoa Agreement, signed on November 15, 2023. Which Agreement succeeded that of Cotonou. This establishes a ”strengthened political partnership aimed at producing mutually beneficial results with regard to common and converging interests, while respecting the values shared by the parties”. Just as it aims to ”facilitate the adoption of common positions by the parties on the global stage”. The Samoa Agreement also leads the parties to cooperate and coordinate on issues of common interest and on new challenges within international bodies.
Conducted in a constructive spirit and transparency, yesterday’s discussions between the two parties made it possible to deal in detail with a large number of subjects ranging from the political transition underway in Gabon, governance, human rights, economic and social situation and environmental issues through regional and multilateral issues, cooperation between the European Union and its Member States on the one hand, and Gabon on the other hand.
