Third man arrested for murder of teenage girl in 1990

A third man was arrested for the murder and rape of a 13-year-old girl in 1990 in Saône-et-, one of the cases in the A6 missing persons file, the family’s lawyer said on Thursday of the victim, Carole Soltysiak.

“After years of inaction and indifference” from the justice system, the suspect was indicted “in light of new investigative elements,” Me Didier Seban announced to AFP, confirming information from franceinfo .

According to public radio, the 62-year-old man was arrested and taken into police custody at the beginning of the week in Montceau-les-Mines (Saône-et-Loire), before being presented to a judge from the specialized center in closed cases from the public prosecutor’s office which took over the case in 2022.

Carole Soltysiak, 13, was found on November 18, 1990, raped, strangled and stabbed to death, in a wood a few kilometers from Montceau-les-Mines the day after her disappearance.

Two men in their thirties imprisoned in 2000 for these acts admitted to having been at the scene of the crime, then denied responsibility. In June 2001, they were released under judicial supervision and have never been tried since.

“The justice system has completely abandoned this case,” deplores Me Seban to AFP, specifying that one of them is interned from time to time in a psychiatric hospital.

In 2005, the Court of Appeal ordered the comparison of DNA found on the body of the victim (not corresponding to that of the two suspects) to that of the serial killers Francis Heaulme and Michel Fourniret, but this did not had given nothing.

“We hope that these latest major advances will allow the rapid organization of a trial,” declared Me Didier Seban.

This case is part of a series of unsolved murders in the 1980s/1990s in Saône-et-Loire, known as the missing people from the A6, whose only common point until today remains proximity territorial.

After the murder of Christelle Blétry, 20 years old, killed with 123 stab wounds in 1996 in Blanzy (Saône-et-Loire), some of the victims’ families grouped together within the Christelle association, represented by Me Didier Seban.

These were the families, among others, of Sylvie Aubert, strangled in 1986, Nathalie Maire, strangled in 1987, Carole Soltysiak, Virginie Bluzet, murdered in 1997, and Vanessa Thiellon, drugged and beaten to death in 1999.
