Elim/CAN 2025: “William Balikwisha…he is a dynamic player who can play inside the game or on the flanks” (Sebastien Desabre)

On the eve of the crucial match against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, Leopards coach Sebastien Desabre highlighted the return of William Balikwisha at a press conference. This match will mark Balikwisha’s comeback in the selection, one year after his last appearance in October 2023 during a friendly match against the Palencas Negras of Angola, which ended in a draw (0-0), Lisbon.

Balikwisha, new recruit from Leuven after a difficult period at Standard de Liège, returns at an opportune time. Desabre stressed that this career development could be decisive for the player, who was not called up for the CAN in January, due to his performances at club and his very complex situation.

“William changed clubs, he went to Louvain. He is a dynamic player who can play inside the game or on the wings. He is also young, for the future, he is important,” he comments.

The presence of Balikwisha could have a certain influence on the team’s play, and increase constant pressure on Gaël Kakuta, another key element at the heart of the game. The return of Dr Balikwisha offers a new dimension to the team, strengthening both its depth and its tactical flexibility.

This return was impatiently awaited, both by supporters and informed observers. Balikwisha, has the opportunity or never to quickly regain his best level to contribute significantly to the team’s great momentum during this first decisive act against the Taifa Stars.
