According to a survey carried out in 2021 by the MaxiCoffee brand, 69% of French people drink coffee every day. Often enjoyed at the end of a meal, coffee can also be an essential part of breakfast, or even a real work companion!
Coffee with milk has anti-inflammatory properties
Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated the health benefits of coffee: rich in caffeine, this hot drink temporarily improves cognitive performance (memory, attention, etc.), reduces cardiovascular and metabolic risks (stroke, heart attack, etc.). myocardium, type 2 diabetes, etc.), and would even have benefits in terms of mental health (reduction in the risk of depression).
But did you know that? It is possible to further improve the health benefits of coffee by adding certain foods… For example: lait. According to a Danish study published at the end of January 2023, coffee with milk would have anti-inflammatory properties.
“Contrary to popular belief, adding milk to your coffee does not make it less digestible.underlines dietitian-nutritionist Nathalie Négro. In addition, milk provides proteins which help build muscle mass and increase satiety..” Whole or semi-skimmed milk, it’s up to everyone to choose according to their tastes.
Plant milks are no (except soy milk)
Is it worth putting “vegetable milk” in your afternoon coffee? Not really, replies Nathalie Négro. “Most “plant milks” (which should rather be called “plant juices”) essentially contain water and sugars: we do not find the nutritional properties of plants there!“
The only exception: soy milk. “It really consists of pressed soy, so we can find phytoestrogens there, which are particularly of interest for women going through menopause.” specifies Nathalie Négro.
Cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla, whole sugar… Why not!
Do you want to twist your (traditional) morning coffee a little? Nathalie Négro suggests trying to incorporate spices : for example, cocoa, cinnamon or vanilla. “These fall-winter spices allow you to avoid putting sugar in coffee… and they provide antioxidants that are beneficial to the body.“All good stuff, then!
Can you add sugar to your coffee? “Better to avoidreplies the dietitian-nutritionist. If you really can’t do without it, choose one whole sugar – rapadura or muscovado type. Because these cane sugars contain molasses, they naturally have more flavor than regular white sugar. So inevitably, we use less, which reduces the impact on blood sugar!“
