Hospital screenings for vision day

This Saturday, October 12, is World Sight Day. The Montagne Noire Revel Lions Club organizes, in partnership with the city hospital, free screenings for eye diseases and vision problems, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ophthalmologist Rima Yazbek, from the -Mazamet hospital center, and Revel optician Alain Acquort will be present at the hospital to welcome patients. Consultations are free on this day.

Since 2016, this initiative has been launched to compensate for the lack of ophthalmologists in the sector. Since 2019, there is no longer an ophthalmologist in the town. For the closest centers, they are in Saïx and Castelnaudary.

During the last sight day last March, professionals welcomed around thirty patients.

Long wait times

These screenings are used to obtain professional advice, even though appointments are difficult to obtain quickly.

During the last day, several disorders were detected: glaucoma, cataracts, AMD, etc.

The professionals who intervene during these days also note that a large part of the consultations are requested by elderly people suffering from mobility problems.
