a real sports R

We’ve been waiting to discover this new Yamaha R9 for several years.

The new arrival in the R range, less exclusive than the R1 Race and R1 GYTR presented recently, does not deny its sporting DNA.

Yamaha R9 2025: a real sports R

With many features inspired by MotoGP, illustrated by the integrated aerodynamic fins which reduce the wheelie of the front wheel by 6 to 7% in a straight line and contribute to the aggressiveness of the front of the R9 or the duct of M-shaped air from the R series.

At the heart of this new Yamaha R9, we find the 890 cc three-cylinder CP3 engine liquid-cooled, injection and double overhead camshaft. The bore and stroke (78mm x 62mm) as well as the compression ratio (11.5:1) deliver a torque of 93 Nm and one power of 119 horsepowercombined with electronic throttle opening control (YCC-T, Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle).

This block is integrated into uncadre Deltabox and aluminum specially developed for the motorcycle and more rigid than that mounted on other models equipped with CP3. Its weight of 9.7 kg makes it the lightest frame ever used for a Yamaha Supersport model. This lightweight chassis means the R9’s fully loaded weight is just 195kg (830mm seat height and 14 liter fuel tank).

In terms of equipment, the Yamaha R9 has front and rear suspension KYB designed specifically for the machine, developed at the same time as those of the R1 GYTR and R1 RACE 2025 machines.

The news 43mm KYB inverted fork has been completely reworked and now has separate adjustments for rebound and compression on the right and left tubes. Each of them can be adjusted individually: the right tube for rebound damping and the left for compression, both at high and low speeds. Each fork tube now features a valve designed to optimize the pressure in the cylinder by limiting or completely preventing oil from flowing into the bottom of the fork. The rear shock is also adjustable for preload, rebound and compression.

For braking, the R9 is equipped withBrembo Stylema monobloc calipers from racing, with stainless steel brake hoses and 320mm front discs. The radial master cylinder has a piston that moves in a direction parallel to the stroke of the brake lever, thereby applying pressure linearly as the rider pulls the lever.
For efficient handling on the track as well as on the road, the R9 is equipped with tires Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport RS11.

Use on the road is particularly facilitated by numerous driving aids such as cruise control which can be activated at speeds above 40 km/h from third gear or a speed limiter. Developed directly from the electronic systems of the R1, theSix axis IMU of the R9 continuously measures acceleration in the forward-backward, up-down and left-right directions, as well as angular velocity in the pitch, roll and yaw directions of the machine and transmits data in real time to the ECU, which controls all driving assistance.

Riders can personalize their riding experience via the Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) settings, which allow the engine power characteristics and level of electronic support to be selected based on their preferences and conditions.

Three driving modes integrated, “Sport”, “Street” and “Rain”, equipped with factory settings with different intervention levels to adapt to different conditions, are complemented by the possibility of presetting two Custom modes and four Track modes. This allows specific YRC settings to be created depending on situations or conditions, adapting the level of electronic assistance such as power modes (PWR), le traction control (TCS), the glide control system (SCS), le braking control (BC), the rear wheel slip regulator (BSR), the engine brake management system (EBM) and the pitch control (LIF), all of which can be adjusted directly on the R9’s YRC settings screen or via Yamaha’s MyRide smartphone app. To optimize starts, the R9 is also equipped with a Start Control system, which helps drivers start and accelerate, while for track use it is possible to deactivate the rear ABS. We also find the quick shift system (QSS) of third generation from Yamaha which allows you to up and down gears quickly without disengaging the clutch.

To adjust your machine, 5-inch color TFT screen can be customized to four themes, while a track mode displays information only relevant to circuit driving, including the stopwatch. A display that can be connected to a smartphone via Yamaha’s MyRide app, via the motorcycle’s onboard Communications Control Unit (CCU).
A full integrated navigation system is also available via the Garmin StreetCross app. Users can view various information and images on the screen, including phone calls, text messages and weather updates.

From the competition, l’application Y-TRAC further enhances the Supersport experience and offers the ability to record and analyze data: lap and sector times as well as machine data, including lean angle, engine speed, gear engaged, speed , throttle position and assistance levels of electronic rider aids, such as traction control.

Many accessories are also available: a tinted screen, tank pads, a license plate holder, GB Racing crankcase protections, a Racing cover kit, or even a complete Akrapovič exhaust system with stainless steel tubes combined with a titanium silencer and the laser engraved R9 logo.

The Yamaha R9 2025 is available in colors Icon Blue et Tech Blackand should appear in Yamaha points of sale from the month of mars 2025. Prices have not yet been announced by the Japanese brand.
