Luc-la-Primaube. Exit. The Golden Age club discovering the nine locks of Fonseranes, in Béziers

A special day for 44 members of the “L’Âge d’or” club from Luc-la-Primaube, who went to Béziers and who were delighted to discover the Fonseranes locks on board a barge. If in Lauragais the locks on the canal are “ordinary”, in Béziers the nine Fonseranes locks are worth discovering. This spectacular water staircase, a major work on the Canal du Midi, is Pierre-Paul Riquet’s gift to his hometown. The Octuple (8 locks, 9 basins in a row) built from 1676 to 1680, overcomes a difference in altitude of 21.50 m over a length of 300 m. The redeveloped, modernized site was reopened to the public on July 1, 2017, a favorite place to walk these days on a site built 350 years ago! And return to land at noon for lunch before boarding a small tourist train which wanders through the city to discover all the emblematic places. Béziers, an astonishing city, surprising with its multiple facets, which everyone was able to discover or rediscover with joy. As on the way out, on the way back a stop at the Caylar area was planned. A beautiful sunny day which was unanimously appreciated by the participants. A big thank you to the bus driver Éric and the Ségala cars company for organizing this day.
