Ratan Tata’s favorite memory? Flying an F-18 fighter jet at the Bangalore Aero Show

Ratan Tata, the visionary industrialist and former chairperson of Tata Group, who famously piloted an F-18 Super Hornet fighter jet, has passed away at 86, leaving a legacy that soars as high as his aviation exploits. Known for blending business acumen with a spirit of adventure, Tata’s life was a testament to the idea that one can truly reach for the skies.

In December 2019, Tata took to social media to reminisce about his career, sharing a snapshot of his joyride in the fighter jet at the Aero India show. “It’s not just the end of a year, but the end of a decade too,” he wrote in a post on Instagram.

“I look forward with excitement to the new decade ahead, which is a great time to be relevant, to stand for causes you believe in, to create something from scratch, make special connections, laugh, and write a little bit of history. Here’s one of my favorite moments from this decade, flying the F18 Super Hornet at the Bangalore Aero Show.”

This sentiment encapsulated Tata’s philosophy: embracing new challenges while nurturing connections and championing causes close to his heart.

Tata’s passion for aviation extended beyond just the F-18. He had previously flown an F-16 during the 2007 Aero India event, showcasing his adventurous spirit and love for flying.
