A tragic road accident occurred on the D 958 in Varen caused one death, Tuesday October 8, 2024. Around 12:15 p.m., a motorist traveling towards the hamlet of Puech-Mignon lost control of her vehicle on a bend for a reason that remains undetermined.

In its course, the vehicle leaves and stops against an embankment. The victim, aged 80, who was not wearing his seat belt, was ejected from the passenger compartment of his vehicle.

The victim was seriously injured but conscious when help arrived. The firefighters provided him with first aid. After regulation by the Samu doctor, it was decided to send the octogenarian, who was unable to express himself, to a hospital in the area.

It was during his transfer to the fire ambulance that the motorist died from his injuries. The public prosecutor, Bruno Sauvage, informed of the facts, did not consider it necessary to request an autopsy. The body was returned to the family.

The victim did not wear his seat belt

On site, the gendarmes carried out the usual findings to determine the exact origin of this new fatal accident. According to initial findings, the causes of death are strongly linked to the victim’s failure to wear a seat belt.

The soldiers of the Montauban gendarmerie emphasize that respecting the wearing of safety equipment is essential. The latter are also announcing in the days to come reinforced and joint checks with the gendarmes of the Departmental Road Safety Squadron (EDSR) of Tarn-et-Garonne.

This dramatic accident further aggravates the toll of road victims in Tarn-et-Garonne, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of 2024 to seventeen.
