The Maple Leafs are $1 off the salary cap

Earlier this week, before the 2024-25 NHL season officially began, the league’s 32 teams all had to finalize their starting lineups and comply with the rules of the collective agreement.

As is the case for many teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs have very little room to maneuver with all their big salaries and must make sure to carefully calculate each move made.

The summer season was not easy for the new CEO Brad Treliving but he managed to bring his team as close as possible to the limit as he put back a starting lineup that is currently a small dollar from the salary cap.

When they say every dollar counts, that’s literally the case for the Leafs.

Moreover, some other formations are dangerously approaching the limit. Here, according to the specialized site Puck Pedia, are the teams that were closest to the salary cap when submitting their official roster.

As we can see, many GM’s will have to make sure to have their calculator on hand throughout the season.

Note that the Canadian has since placed the name of the attacker Patrick Laine on the long-term injured list, freeing up plenty of cap space and wiggle room for Kent Hughes.
