Cameroon: government denial of rumors about the death of Paul Biya | Gabonmediatime.com

For some time now, there has been a crazy rumor about the death of Cameroonian President Paul Biya. After a few days of silence, the Cameroonian government finally issued a denial, in a press release dated October 8 and signed by the Minister of Communication, government spokesperson, René Emmanuel Sadi.

Aged 91, and in power since 1982, Paul Biya is still alive if the Cameroonian government is to be believed. Indeed, in his press release, the government spokesperson denounces “peremptory announcements, accompanied by comments all as tendentious as each other, but without any connection with the reality of the facts”.

Paul Biya on private stay in Europe

This is the information communicated by Cameroonian officials in order to remove any ambiguity regarding the state of health of the oldest head of state in the world still in office. “The Government of the Republic affirms unequivocally that these rumors are the fantasy and pure imagination of their authors and intends here to provide a formal denial”indicates the press release. According to the authorities, “the day after the China-Africa Summit in which he took an active part, the Head of State granted himself a brief private stay in Europe”they continue without further details as to the European country in which Paul Biya would have gone.

The Cameroonian government indicates, however, that the head of state remains “attentive to the evolution of national life”. This is why it also invites “Cameroonians as partners and friendly countries, not to allow themselves to be distracted by maneuvers of disinformation, exploitation and destabilization orchestrated by small groups and pernicious individuals, for ulterior purposes”.
