The 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to three scientists. Half of the prize goes to the American David Baker, who succeeded in building proteins of an entirely new kind. As for the British Demis Hassabis and the American John Jumper, they receive the other half of the prize, for having developed an artificial intelligence model called Alphafold, capable of solving a 50-year-old problem: predicting the complex structures of proteins .

The Nobel Prize in chemistry is the third of the season, after that in physiology awarded Monday to the Americans Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for their discovery of microRNAs, and that in physics awarded Tuesday to the British-Canadian physicists Geoffrey Hinton and American John Hopfield, for research that paved the way for the development of AI.
