The 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to David Baker, Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper

In 2023, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to three nanoparticle specialists, a Franco-American, an American and a Russian.

Third day of decoration in Stockholm. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded this Wednesday, October 9, to David Baker, Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper for their work on proteins.

In 2023, this distinction was awarded to a trio composed of Moungi Bawendi, Louis Brus and Alexei Ekimov, born respectively in , the United States and the USSR and all three working on nanoparticles.

The committee rewarded their work on “the discovery and development of quantum dots, nanoparticles so small that their size determines their properties”.

The Nobel Prizes in Physics and Medicine already awarded

This Tuesday, the American John Hopfield and the British-Canadian Geoffrey Hinton were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics “for their fundamental discoveries and inventions which enable automatic learning with artificial neural networks”.

American biologists Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine on Monday “for their discovery of a fundamental principle governing the regulation of gene activity.”

More than two prizes are expected: the Nobel Prize for Literature this Thursday and the Peace Prize on Friday, the only prize awarded in Oslo.
