Transavia explains the reasons

The market share of the French low-cost airline, Transavia, in Algeria is constantly increasing, as are its sales of plane tickets elsewhere, despite high prices.

Last September, Transavia, the low-cost subsidiary of Air -KLM and main competitor of Air Algérie, announced the opening of four new routes between France and Algeria. Thus, the company will operate 21 journeys in the winter season to Algeria.

The new lines announced are -Algiers, -Algiers, -Algiers and Toulouse-Oran. In detail, Transavia specifies that five flights per week (Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) are planned between Marseille and Algiers from October 21, 2024.

Between Toulouse and Algiers, the company plans to launch two flights per week, every Monday and Friday, from October 24, 2024. Towards Oran, the company will also add two flights per week (Wednesday and Saturday) from October 23 .

Finally, between Nice and Algiers, Transavia plans to launch two weekly flights every Thursday and Sunday, starting October 27, 2024. Prices start at 39 and 49 euros one way.

“Sales (of Transavia tickets) are increasing month after month”

In an interview given this Monday, October 7 to the newspaper Jeune Afrique, the deputy general director of Transavia France, Nicolas Henin, addressed several questions related to his company’s market in Algeria.

From the outset, he stressed that it was now possible to buy Transavia plane tickets in Algerian dinar, “ but for the moment only from Algiers, where we inaugurated our sales agency in April “. The company also plans to extend this service to Oran in the near future.

Although it is currently limited “ by technical factors » as part of the deployment of this service in Algeria, the company ensures that “ sales (of its tickets) increase month after month ”, just like his “ market share », Underlined the manager.

High price of flights to Algeria in summer: explanations from Transavia France

Regarding the high cost of tickets in Algeria, a point that comes up for debate every summer, the director of Transavia is responsible for these price increases “ to the particularity of the Algerian market ».

According to him, this market is dominated by VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) and community travelers, that is to say those who travel to visit their families and friends.

And this is what causes extremely strong and concentrated demand over a fairly short period », explained the speaker, specifying that traffic peaks in this market are very significant at the start of the year, during school holidays and during the summer.

Thus, for a departure in July and a return in August, the Managing Director of Transavia notes that the demand is almost infinite, in the face of a limited supply.

During peak periods, particularly the summer season, prices do indeed increase, he admitted, but planes fill up very quickly. For him, the exorbitant prices in summer are really due to “ game of supply and demand ».

However, apart from major traffic peaks, “ the prices are fairly consistent with what can be sold to equivalent destinations either in North Africa or in Southern Europe “, he said.

As an example, he cites the Marseille – Algiers flights which were marketed this week and sold from 39.00 euros one way, as well as flight prices on the other new routes, set from 49.00 euros.
