A demonstration by farmers this Wednesday in for “an urgent change of course”

A demonstration by farmers from Meurthe-et- is planned for this Wednesday morning in . Mobilization with tractors – but without a snail operation – from 10 a.m. in front of the Departmental Directorate of Territories at the call of the JA and FDSEA unions.

They are calling on the government for an “urgent change of direction” so that farmers can make a decent living from their work. The two unions denounce regulations too restrictive in a context of great difficulties: poor harvests, incessant rain for months and bluetongue.

This year “is tough in the way she goes about her job”underlines Jérémy Jennesson, president of the FDSEA of Meurthe-et-Moselle. “Today, we have work that must be completed in the fields but we cannot enter the plots because it rains every day. We need the plants to dry and be able to be stored because if they’re wet, they’ll rot. So we need good weather.”

“It’s been raining for almost a year”

“Behind, we have to start the next campaign, the re-sowing of cereals, and we are going to be very late in our work”he continues. “This in an economic context with a poor harvest in quantity and quality. And the quality leads us to have poor remuneration because we are not competitive on the markets to sell our products. It’s a bit double penalty.”

“It’s been raining for almost a year, we haven’t reached saturation point but it weighs on the morale of farmers in addition to weighing economically”, concludes Jérémy Jennesson.

  • The mobilization of farmers this Wednesday must begin at 10 a.m. and last until 1 p.m. in front of the Departmental Directorate of Territories in Nancy, place des Ducs de Bar.
