UN-Habitat 2024: The city of Rabat receives the Honorary Prize

This prestigious Prize rewards cities which have achieved exceptional achievements in urban development and contributed significantly to improving the quality of life of their inhabitants, indicates the Rabat City Council in a press release.

“The nomination of Rabat for this Prize of Excellence represents a glorious international distinction which recognizes the relevance of the emblematic program “Rabat City of Light, Moroccan capital of culture”, launched and decided by His Majesty King Mohammed VI,” adds the same source.

She specifies that thanks to this program, Rabat stands out as a dynamic cultural and sporting center which underlines its commitment to promoting sustainable urban development in accordance with SDG No. 11 (Ensuring that cities and human settlements are open safe, resilient and sustainable for all).

“The city’s public spaces have been redeveloped to encourage community engagement and personal development. The company’s vision adopts a human-centered approach, aiming to improve access to social services and promote inclusion through sport, art and culture,” we explain.

One of the major achievements was the creation of 175 local courts spread throughout the city, providing spaces for a variety of sporting disciplines and promoting well-being and social inclusion, particularly for young people, continues the Council of the city.

“Rabat positions itself as an inspiring example of good governance and urban development, harmonizing culture, inclusion and sustainability, under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI,” the press release concludes.
