WEATHER REPORT
Tuesday October 8, the Var is placed on YELLOW vigilance with weather situation to monitor for thunderstorms and rain-flooding
During the night of Monday October 7 to Tuesday October 8, Météo France places the Var department on YELLOW vigilance with weather conditions to monitor for thunderstorms and rain-flooding, from 3 a.m. until the afternoon.
Weather report
Stormy rises from the Mediterranean are expected in the second part of the night from Monday October 7 to Tuesday October 8. They will first concern Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse then
will gradually shift towards the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes. These rises are likely to cause strong storms with significant accumulations (20 to 40 mm expected during this episode and
locally 50-70mm in a short time) as well as hail.
These potentially virulent storm phenomena may require an increase in vigilance towards the orange level.
The prefect of Var calls for vigilance when traveling and to exercise caution near rivers.
During stormy rains, significant runoff may occur: do not use fords, submersible bridges or underpasses or on a flooded road.
30 cm of water is enough to carry away a car.
Cautionary instructions during thunderstorms:
– move away from trees and streams
– take shelter in a permanent building
– stay informed and avoid traveling
– protect property exposed to the wind or which may be flooded
– avoid using your phone and electrical appliances
Cautionary instructions during rain-flooding:
– limit your travel
– do not go on foot or by car on a submerged path
– do not approach watercourses or areas usually flooded
– monitor the situation by consulting www.vigicrues.gouv.fr
– do not go down into basements.
