Rain-floods: eleven departments on orange alert: News

Eleven departments from to Jura are placed on orange rain-flood alert, including nine from 10 p.m. Monday, Météo- announced in its 4 p.m. bulletin.

The departments of , Rhône, Ain, Isère, Saône-et-Loire, Jura, Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-Maritimes join Lozère, Ardèche and Gard .

“During the night from Monday to Tuesday, an active rainstorm episode will affect the Cévennes regions. The precipitation will be intense and could lead to accumulations of around a hundred millimeters in three to six hours. the episode (around twelve hours), 150 to occasionally 200 millimeters of rain are forecast, details the meteorological agency.

“The extension of precipitation towards the Saône valley could result in the departments of Rhône-Alpes on orange alert 60 to 80 millimeters, locally more, in twenty-four hours,” she adds.

Finally, “in the departments of Burgundy Franche-Comté on orange alert, accumulations of around 50 millimeters or even 70 millimeters are expected in twelve hours”.

The end of the alert in these departments is scheduled for Tuesday around 3:00 p.m., according to the public establishment.

Météo-France mentions a deterioration “of a fairly large scale and unusual for a month of October” in the country, from New Aquitaine to Centre-Val de Loire to the north-eastern quarter.

This type of episode, however, is not unusual in the Cévennes regions, underlines the forecaster.

In certain departments currently placed on yellow thunderstorm and/or rain-flood vigilance, this level of vigilance could be revised upwards.
