Guadeloupe is once again in mourning after two fatal accidents that occurred on the evening of Saturday October 5, 2024, reports The 1st . The first occurred on the RN4 ring road in Gosier, around 6 p.m. A trainee firefighter was struck down by a motorist while he was cycling. The 34-year-old man did not survive his injuries.

“An everyday hero”

The driver of the car fled before finally going to the police station, our colleagues indicate. The firefighter, a triathlon enthusiast, was in the middle of a training session at the time of the shock. He was married and the father of two children.

“Guadeloupe today loses an everyday hero whose self-sacrifice and sense of duty will remain engraved in our memories and will continue to inspire all those who knew and knew him”reacted in a joint press release relayed by Antilles the president of the Departmental Council, Guy Losbar, and the head of SDIS Henri Angélique.

An already worrying number of deaths

Saturday, around 8 p.m., this time it was the town of Sainte-Rose which was the scene of a tragedy. A 3-year-old child was hit by a car on the road to Sofaïa. The little boy was in cardio-respiratory arrest when emergency services arrived on site and could not be resuscitated.

These two accidents bring to 39 the number of deaths on the roads of Guadeloupe since the start of the year, the same number as for the whole of 2023. On September 7, three young people aged 18 to 19 lost life on a road trip in Petit-Bourg.
