Real Madrid returned to victory in La Liga by winning 2-0 against Villarreal on matchday 9 this Saturday evening. The Madrilenians, who had experienced a disappointment in the middle of the week in the Champions League, were able to bounce back thanks to goals from Federico Valverde and Vinicius Junior.
After a complicated week, marked by a draw against Atletico Madrid (1-1) and a bitter defeat against Lille (1-0), in the Champions League, Real Madrid raised its head this Saturday evening. Opposed to Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu, during the ninth day of La Liga, the Merengues won with a score of 2-0.
Kylian Mbappé, back from injury and holder, failed to shine. On the other hand, Valverde opened the scoring with a deflected shot in the first half. Vinicius Junior then ensured the success of the Merengues with a powerful strike from the right.
Carlo Ancelotti’s players dominated the match, despite some scares at the start of the match. Villarreal, who had started well, failed to realize their chances.
Real Madrid’s victory was, however, overshadowed by injuries to Vinicius Jr and Carvajal. The first left his teammates after persistent shoulder pain, while the second was evacuated on a stretcher after a botched move.

This victory allows Real Madrid to return to the level of FC Barcelona at the top of the championship. The Yellow Submarine, for its part, retains its third place but could be dislodged by Atlético Madrid.
