Although the spectacle is splendid, a question arises: are these the Northern Lights, as we announced on Saturday?

“Ultimately, the coronal mass ejection that would have caused the geomagnetic storm passed more or less close to Earth“. It is therefore unlikely that there will be “aurora borealis at low altitude“, explains Linus Head, researcher in astrophysics at ULiège.

The latter states: “Unfortunately for me, these are only photos of the sunrise“.

“It seems to me that the images were taken early this morning. However, to see the auroras, you have to do this in the middle of the night.“, he adds. Especially since in this case, the sky took on an orange hue whereas with the Northern Lights, “we would see more green than red“.

“We are entering a period of high solar activity, so there is a good chance that we will see real auroras in Belgium soon“, he concluded.
