Reactions after the 2-1 defeat to KV Kortrijk

After seven consecutive victories in the Jupiler Pro League, KRC Genk’s strong run came to an end on Saturday evening. After Bonsu Baah’s beautiful opening goal, the home team turned the situation around in three hectic minutes. Our boys were unable to reverse that deficit afterwards.

Thorsten Fink was clearly disappointed after the match. “We started strongly and quickly took the lead, but gave it away too easily. In such situations we have to show more maturity. The home team was incredibly efficient, something we lacked today. Despite the many chances, it was not our best, perhaps “We didn’t have the luck we had last week. We are going to analyze this defeat carefully and prepare optimally for the Limburg derby. I have heard that the stadium will probably be sold out.”

Captain Bryan Heynen could hardly hide his disappointment. “We didn’t play a bad game per se, but we lacked efficiency. It was difficult to break through their solid defensive block. We lacked depth and position changes, but despite that we still had enough chances to win. Our winning streak ends here, and although you know that will happen at some point, it is a shame that it is this way. We could have won today. Now we have two weeks to prepare for the derby.”

Three Arokodars acknowledged that Genk could have achieved more if they had been more efficient: “As a striker I feel partly responsible for the result. We had enough chances to beat Kortrijk, but our lack of efficiency cost us the points. It is frustrating to see how, despite a reasonably good match, we still end up empty-handed.” Still, Arokodare is already looking ahead to the next match. “The team is counting on me to score. With the Limburg derby looming, I want to do everything I can to be sharper in front of goal. We continue to create chances, now we just have to capitalize on them. Despite the disappointment, we remain positive; We have shown that we can play good football. If we are more efficient, we will continue to fight for that as a team.”
