For 17 years, on the occasion of the first days of harvest, the Couly estate, in Chinon, has organized a “Harvester for a day” day for so that everyone can touch the reality of the work of a winegrower. After a morning of harvesting, participants discover the winemaking process and a tasting closes the day. Half a day of harvest costs 45 euros. This year, around forty people came from all over France and even Belgium and England to participate in the harvest for a morning.
“We realize the effort we have to make”
“Fortunately this weekend the weather is nicebegins Bertrand Couly, owner of the estate, otherwise we put on boots, one over them and we go anyway. They are there to discover, even one morning, the reality of our work, and that’s it!“This is exactly why Quentin, a 21-year-old Belgian student, followed his parents this Saturday morning. Among the most robust grape pickers, he was assigned a hood and went back and forth between his colleagues in a morning and the trailers at the top of the rows.I think you have to be physically fit to do it, but otherwise, it’s great. It’s still heavy and climbing the trailer ladder is technical. We realize a little of what we are actually drinking, everything that is behind it, the effort that we have to make.“
