Conor McGregor has ripped into Kevin Holland following the stoppage of his UFC 307 main card fight against Roman Dolidze.
At UFC 307 on Saturday, Kevin Holland welcomed Roman Dolidze back down to the 185lb division after ‘The Caucasian’ picked up a win against Anthony Smith at light heavyweight earlier this year.
‘The Trailblazer’ was looking to make it back-to-back victories and was hoping to once again gain some momentum since moving back up to middleweight.
Kevin Holland is forced to quit after suffering a freak injury at UFC 307
Fans were highlighting this fight as a potential Fight of the Night contender as both fighters are known for their finishing capabilities and exciting styles.
Dolidze began the fight well and made it clear from the get-go that he didn’t want to stand and strike with the awkward Holland and wanted to get the fight to the ground as soon as he could.
After a few brief striking exchanges, the Georgian successfully landed a takedown and began to control in the guard of Holland. ‘The Trailblazer’ looked content with allowing Dolidze to control the exchange as he wrapped up a body triangle from the bottom position.
Not long after, Holland looked to transition into an armbar whilst on the bottom and began wincing in pain almost straight away. After giving up his position and seemingly injuring himself, Dolidze began reigning down some ferocious ground-and-pound, but somehow, Holland hung in the fight.
When the round finished, Holland struggled to make it back to his feet and back to his corner and straightaway complained to his corner that he broke his rib when he attempted a transition.
After continuing to complain about the pain, his corner told the referee to stop the fight and the fight was surprisingly stopped.
Conor McGregor rips into Kevin Holland for freak injury stoppage
Although it was Holland’s corner team who made the final decision, the 31-year-old didn’t give them much choice with his reaction and his demeanor between rounds.
Reacting to the freak injury stoppage on X (formerly Twitter) in a now-deleted tweet, UFC megastar, Conor McGregor, ripped into Holland for not even trying to go into round two.
Of course, McGregor has suffered a devastating injury of his own whilst in the middle of a big fight and hasn’t fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021.
“Didn’t even f*cking try? Nah that is ridiculous!” McGregor began to complain.
“Go out again and see how it is. If folds up again then you end it with the towel. Nah that’s not it for me folks. Holland is a solid veteran he well should have went out and gave it a shot to see how he was. Wrong move,” McGregor continued.
