Absent with the Blues, holder with Real Madrid: the funny paradox Kylian Mbappé

This is information that risks making our French friends cringe. Kylian Mbappéalthough announced as uncertain, is in the starting line-up with Real Madrid to face Villarreal this Saturday evening.

A tenure which risks surprising since three days ago, the Frenchman had not been selected by Didier Deschamps for the next gathering of the Blues. And if the French coach ultimately didn’t really speak out about the absence of his captain, we understood, by reading between the lines, that Kiki was spared after an injury to his left thigh incurred at club level. “I don’t want to take any risks.” the coach laconically commented.

Ultimately, this injury seems less serious than expected. Or Mbappé got back on his feet more quickly than expected, to the point of setting foot on the pitch from the start this Saturday evening. Still, this whole situation leads to a strange paradox: not fit enough to wear the national team jersey, Mbappé seems, on the other hand, to be 100% when it comes to playing with his club.

A situation which is reminiscent of that of Kevin De Bruynewho asked Domenico Tedesco to skip the next two Devils gatherings. Except that KDB is seriously injured. And this weekend, it was from the stands that he watched City’s victory against Fulham (3-2).

So, does this absence of Mbappé from the national team hide a bigger problem? Or did Real Madrid put pressure on to keep their flagship transfer during the international break? We imagine that poor Didier Deschamps risks being grilled on this subject from the first press conferences next week…
