The death under conditions not yet clarified of Dr Mohamed Diabaté, a recognized pediatrician in Kankan, sparked a strong reaction from RPG Arc-en-ciel. During a recent inauguration of a statue in homage to the president of the transition, prefect Kandja Mara made remarks perceived as an implicit threat, which aroused the indignation of members of the RPG Arc-en-ciel. At a weekly general assembly held this Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the party headquarters, the former Minister of Commerce, Marc Yombouno, expressed his indignation, calling for an investigation into the circumstances of this tragedy.

“What touches us is not only the death, but the attitude of an authority which glorifies crime. To say that “whoever puts paint on that will leave like the other” is deeply unacceptable. It’s abnormal. An authority should not say that,” he lamented, stressing that speeches of this nature have no place in a society that aspires to justice and dignity.

Marc Yombouno also called for a serious investigation into the circumstances of Dr Diabaté’s death. “An authority should commit to understanding the causes of this tragedy, and not incite fear with veiled threats,” requested this head of the RPG political office, who recalled the values of former president Alpha Condé, by stating this: “Professor Condé would never have allowed such abuses. He advocated respect for human life and dignity, values which today seem forgotten.”

Calling for the mobilization of civil society to defend the rights of citizens and ensure that such incidents do not happen again, Marc Yombouno urged activists to unite to combat these kinds of behaviors.

“We must unite to denounce these injustices and remind our leaders of their responsibilities towards the people,” he concluded.
