After the stars of the Champions League, return to “daily bread”: Losc wishes to draw inspiration from its exploit against Real Madrid (1-0) to continue against Toulouse on Saturday (7 p.m.) during the seventh day of Ligue 1 .
Obviously, the spotlights at Stade Pierre-Mauroy will be less bright on Saturday. They will no longer enlighten Vinicius, Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and the other stars of Real, in a European confrontation.
But Losc, fifth in the championship with ten points, aspires to maintain this light which guided it to write one of the most beautiful lines in its history and use it against TFC, fifteenth (five points), in ” a much less sexy match to play,” concedes Bruno Genesio.
Against the Madrilenians, Lille showed the best of themselves in tactical and technical application, self-sacrifice and collective strength. So many elements that they lacked in Saint-Étienne (1-0 defeat), in Lisbon against Sporting (2-0 defeat), and to a lesser extent against Strasbourg (3-3).
“Can you imagine the difference in attitude between (the match at) Saint-Étienne and what we did this evening?” exclaimed club president Olivier Létang in the wake of the feat. “That means that it’s a whole club that is moving forward, that is progressing. In a way, their success against the Madrilenians obliges them. “If we did that tonight against Real Madrid, we have to be up to it on Saturday against Toulouse,” recalls Olivier Létang. “It’s our daily bread.”
– “Reproducing is the hardest part” –
It’s a completely different match that awaits Lille against Toulouse. They will undoubtedly have to play the game from start to finish, in the position of the hunter and no longer that of Tom Thumb.
“We have to reproduce it, it’s always the most difficult at the very, very high level,” believes Bruno Genesio. “We know that there are matches after the Champions League which are always difficult to manage, so we have to finish well before this break to be able to think again, of course, about the championship, but also about the posters which await us in the Champions League.”
In particular, it is a question of proving that the improvement in defense – no goals conceded in the last two matches – was not temporary, against the Toulouse attack, one of the worst in the championship.
“Over the last two matches, I found a more balanced team and much more involved in recovering the ball, whether in pressing or in the transition phases,” rejoices Genesio.
The coach will once again be able to count on his two midfielders Angel and André Gomes, a few days after the major performance of young Ayyoub Bouaddi on his 17th birthday.
