Did the point at Westerlo come at the right time to save Van Kuyt’s skin? “I have no control over what management thinks”

The first point since the first match day at the end of July. Beerschot finally escaped defeat against Westerlo. Just in time to stabilize coach Dirk Kuyt’s shaky position? An internal evaluation would follow next week. “But what certain people think and think doesn’t really affect me much,” the Dutch coach shrugged.

“If you had asked me in advance whether I wanted to score a point here, I would have signed immediately,” Dirk Kuyt was honest after the match against Westerlo.

And yet the Dutchman stood in front of the DAZN microphone with mixed feelings. Beerschot took the lead twice, but gave it away each time.

“I am a person who always wants to win,” he made no bones about it. “In any situation. If you take the lead twice, you just want to get the game over the line.”

“Anyway, before the match we discussed our situation and it is far from rosy. You can be disappointed now, but at the same time I think it is very good of my boys. They have continued to fight.”

“This is a point we can continue to build on. It is a foundation for building confidence, because you need confidence for results. Hopefully we can continue to build on this against Anderlecht.”

I am working with my boys to make something out of a difficult situation.

Dirk Kuyt

So no criticism towards his players. Kuyt may realize that this point comes at a good time, because an internal evaluation is scheduled for Monday.

“But I don’t concern myself with that,” said the man about the many stories circulating about his position. “I’m just trying to build something within the group to get the much-needed points.”

“What certain people think or think of me is all fine. The people I speak to, the policymakers, tell me something different.”

“As long as nothing changes… I have no control over that and it doesn’t really affect me much. I am working with my boys to make something out of a difficult situation.”

Yet Kuyt will probably secretly hope that policy makers will make peace with the first point in more than 2 months on Monday.
