Pedestrian narrowly avoids death after collision with tow truck

A sixty-year-old woman is now out of danger after being hit by a tow truck, causing her serious injuries, in Sherbrooke on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision, on the 13e Avenue, around 1:30 p.m., the Sherbrooke Police Department reported Friday in a press release.

When they arrived on scene, the police, paramedics and first responders discovered the 68-year-old woman seriously injured in the lower body. She was transported to a hospital, where doctors feared for her life for part of the afternoon. She was eventually declared out of danger later that day.

The driver of the tow truck involved in the collision did not suffer any injuries in the accident, but was treated for nervous shock.

Several patrol police officers, assisted by investigators and a forensic identification technician, will be dispatched to the scene until early evening to reconstruct the event. For the moment, the criminal theory is ruled out, said the SPS.

The 13e avenue between rue du Conseil and rue King Est will be closed part of the evening to allow teams to work. Operational support police officers are on site to redirect traffic.
