The screenplay, written by journalist Gabriel Sherman, uncompromisingly depicts how Trump used his alliance with Cohn to build his financial empire and forge his ruthless public persona. The film presents a cold, raw take on the methods Trump used to consolidate his power, while delving into the dark underbelly of the American empire.

A film to put an end to Trump

The film, without a doubt, will trigger a lot of controversy in the middle of the American electoral campaign. One of the most controversial aspects of The Apprentice is the depiction of an episode of sexual abuse between Trump and his first wife, Ivana Trump, played by Maria Bakalova. The scene sparked a strong backlash from Trump’s legal team, who called the film “fake and sensationalist.”

Despite threats of lawsuits and attempts to block the film’s distribution, The Apprentice will be released in theaters across the United States on October 11, 2024, just before the election.
