No time to rest. After 31 years of mystery, the enigma of the Golden Owl, announced to the general public in May 1993, was solved on Thursday October 3, 2024. The end of the race for the golden animal has frustrated many adventurers. But a game of the same type, launched in 2021 and entitled the Entente Cordiale treasure hunt, promises the winner a gold box estimated at a value of 750,000 euros.
Set up by Michel Becker, co-organizer of the Chouette d’or, the enigma poses the challenge of finding the box offered in 1904 by King Edward VII of England to the French president at the time, Émile Loubet , at the time of the signing of the Entente Cordiale, a treaty which ended repeated wars between the French and British.
In 2021, when Michel Becker launched the game, he intended to benefit from the success of his first treasure hunt, entitled “On the trail of the golden owl”. Before being solved, it was the world’s oldest continuing mystery.
The Entente Cordiale operates on the same principle as that of the Golden Owl. Each participant must solve a series of puzzles in order to find the golden chest. But a few differences make it special. With 9 puzzles to solve, rather than 11 for the Golden Owl treasure hunt, the objective is to find “a key” which is “divided” into several parts, distributed “in France and the United Kingdom” , specified the official Facebook page of the treasure hunt when it was launched.
