Nasdaq gains more than 100 points; Beneficient shares soar

US stocks closed higher, with the Nasdaq Composite gaining more than 100 points on Friday.

The Dow rose 0.37% to 42,165.39, and the NASDAQ rose 0.77% to 18,056.62. The S&P 500 also rose, 0.46%, to 5,726.34.

Financial stocks jumped 1.2% on Friday.

Real estate stocks fell 0.9% on Friday.

Stocks on the rise

  • The actions of Phoenix Motor Inc.(NASDAQ:PEV) soared 188% to 1.0012 after the company reported a substantial increase in its first quarter results.
  • The actions ofApogee Enterprises, Inc.(NASDAQ:APOG) were strengthened, jumping 24% to 85.08 after the company reported better-than-expected second-quarter financial results and raised its adjusted EPS forecast for fiscal 2025 to – above estimates.
  • The actions of Beneficient(NASDAQ:BENF) also rose, gaining 53% to 1.82 after the company announced the completion of the previously announced transaction by its subsidiary, Beneficient Company Holdings, following which approximately 126 million of its preferred shares were reclassified as non-redeemable.

Stocks falling

  • The actions ofAMTD Digital Inc.(NYSE:HKD) fell 15% to $4.45.
  • The actions of ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd.(NYSE:ZIM) fell 12% to close at $19.06.
  • Spirit Airlines, Inc.(NYSE:SAVE) also faced decline, falling 27% to 1.6459, following a report suggesting the company is considering filing for bankruptcy.

Raw materials

On the commodities side, oil rose 1.5% to $74.83, while gold fell 0.5% to $2,665.30.

Silver fell 0.3% to $32.375 on Friday, while copper rose 0.3% to $4.5670.

Eurozones

European stocks closed mostly higher today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 index rose 0.44%, Germany’s DAX climbed 0.55% and ’s CAC 40 rose 0.85%. Spain’s IBEX 35 index rose 0.35%, while London’s FTSE 100 fell 0.02%.

The S&P Global UK construction sector PMI jumped to 57.2 in September from 53.6 the previous month, while the French construction sector PMI fell to 37, 9 in September compared to 40.1 the previous month. The Eurozone PMI rose to 42.1 in September from 41.4 in the previous two months.

Asia-Pacific region markets

Asian markets closed mixed on Friday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 index up 0.22%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index up 2.82% and down 0.98%. % for India’s BSE Sensex Index.

The HSBC India Services PMI was revised down to 57.7 in September from a preliminary reading of 58.9. S&P Global’s Hong Kong PMI jumped to 50.0 in September from August’s reading of 49.4.

Economy

  • The U.S. economy added 254,000 jobs last month, up from a revised gain of 159,000 in August and beating market forecasts of 147,000. The unemployment rate fell to 4.1%. in September, compared to 4.2% the previous month.
  • The total number of active oil drilling operations in the United States fell by five to 479 this week, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.
