Attempted assassination of Donald Trump: the widow of the victim of the meeting in Butler denounces security flaws

Four months after the tragedy, the anger has not subsided. This Friday, the widow of Corey Comperatore, the firefighter killed during the assassination attempt on Donald Trump on July 13, gave an interview to the BBC in which she denounces “errors” in the Secret Service’s security system .

“I’m angry because a lot of mistakes were made that day and they shouldn’t have happened,” she says. “I see them again (images of the attack) every time I close my eyes and I will probably see them for a long time to come,” continues Helen Comperatore.

New meeting planned in Butler

After the assassination attempt on July 13, Kimberly Cheatle, then director of the Secret Service, admitted that the institution had “failed” in its mission to protect former President Trump. Ten days after the attack, the latter announced her resignation. During September, after a second alleged assassination attempt against Donald Trump, elected representatives of Congress accused the Secret Service of “failures”.

Corey Comperatore was 50 years old when he was killed at the meeting in Butler, Pennsylvania, by Thomas Crooks. Two members of the public were also injured and candidate Donald Trump was hit in the ear.

This Saturday, October 5, Donald Trump is due to hold a new meeting in Butler, on the site where the assassination attempt took place.
