Television maker Axel Daeseleire may face a prison sentence. The public prosecutor wants to prosecute him for an interview he conducted with a pedophile for the program ‘Axel Gaat Binnen’.
Axel Daeseleire interviewed a pedophile in the Forensic Psychiatric Center in Ghent for the program ‘Axel Gaat Binnen’. He then confessed that he had sexually assaulted seven minors. Shortly after the recordings, the man moved to another institution in Beernem. There it was discovered that he had given that interview and they filed a complaint. VTM then decided to postpone the program because a penalty was demanded. The episode in question was later broadcast, but the entire interview with the pedophile was cut.
Now there is a new complaint stating that the program makers are guilty of ‘abuse of the weak condition of vulnerable people to perform actions’. The interviewee’s lawyer states that his client has an IQ of 67 and acts like a seven-year-old. That would also explain why the man agreed to the interview.
Axel Daeseleire will not be prosecuted alone. The public prosecutor also wants production house Lecter Media and two employees to appear in court. The Forensic Psychiatric Center and two members of staff are also being targeted.
