Anderlecht in the wake of the tenors, the Union… and Manchester United lagging behind: the Europa League ranking

For now, it’s still quite difficult, but one day you’ll have to get used to it. Like the Champions League, the Europa League has had a makeover by combining all its subgroups into a large general classification. Each team will therefore play eight matches and at the end of these eight matches, the eight best will go directly to the round of 16, the teams ranked from 9th to 24th place will compete in the play-offs, while the last twelve teams will be eliminated. We take stock of the ranking after two days.

A week after his home victory against Ferencvaros (2-1), Anderlecht achieved a very big coup by winning on the lawn of the Royal Societywhat’s more after being led (1-2). The Mauves, who can thank their providential scorer Theo Leoni, took the opportunity to reach the top of the rankings with this immaculate record of 6 points out of 6.

With a goal difference of +2, the Brussels residents are 5th behind a trio of big players and the FCSB. Faller of Nice (4-1), the Lazio is 1st, ahead Lyon (1-4 to Rangers) and Tottenham (1-2 to Ferencvaros). Anderlecht is therefore rather well supported and for the moment (very) well positioned with a view to qualifying.

For its part, the Union, as harmless as ever, was unable to do better than a goalless draw against Bodo Glimt (0-0). The Unionists are, for the moment, out of the qualifying places since they are 26th with 1 point out of 6.

Surprisingly, the Saint-Gillois are alongside big names at the bottom of the rankings: Besiktas (0/6) is last, while Roma (1/6) or Royal Society (1/6) also appear in the zone “rouge“. Note that Manchester United (21st, 2/6) and Porto (24th, 1/6) and are also badly behind with 0 victories in two matches.
