Typhoon Krathon: at least two dead and thousands affected in Taiwan – LINFO.re

On Thursday, October 3, Typhoon Krathon swept across southern Taiwan accompanied by gusts, floods and mudslides. At least two people lost their lives.

Several injured

The Central Meteorological Administration of Taiwan (CWA) announced that the typhon Krathon made landfall near Xiaogang District in Kaohsiung at around 12:40 p.m., Thursday, October 3. It swept across the south of the country with destructive winds, floods and mudslides, reports Le Figaro.
According to firefighters, at least two people lost their lives and 219 injured due to the bad weather. Furthermore, the weather conditions complicated rescue operations.

Power outage, canceled flights…

The typhon Krathon severely disrupted air traffic. Indeed, on Thursday, all domestic flights were suspended for the second consecutive day and nearly 240 international flights canceled.
Authorities said it also caused temporary power cuts to nearly 55,000 homes.
In Pingtung County, coastal roads, flooded by huge waves, collapsed. According to a count Thursday by the Taiwanese Ministry of the Interior, around 10,000 people were evacuated.
Before his move to Taiwanthis typhoon devastated remote islands in the Philippines, leaving one person dead and eight injured.
